Mt. Hood Volleyball Club Mission Statement
Welcome to Mt. Hood Volleyball club, a non-profit volleyball organization with a mission to empower athletes of all ages and backgrounds through the game of volleyball. We are committed to providing opportunities for growth, leadership, and teamwork, both on and off the court.
Mount Hood Volleyball Club seeks to provide opportunities that promote skill development, sportsmanship and positive self growth. Our organization believes that every athlete deserves a chance to play, learn, and grow, regardless of financial background or skill level. Through our programs and community partnerships, we make volleyball accessible to everyone.
Mt. Hood Volleyball Club is a Non Profit operating under a 5013c
Operating under a 501(c)(3) status for a sports team means that the organization is recognized as a tax-exempt, non-profit entity by the IRS.
1. Non-Profit Status:
The sports team or organization is a non-profit, meaning it operates not to make a profit but to fulfill a charitable or educational purpose, such as promoting physical fitness, teaching teamwork, or providing access to sports for underserved communities.
2. Tax-Exempt:
Being a 501(c)(3) means the organization is exempt from federal income tax and, in many cases, from state and local taxes as well. This allows the sports team to allocate more of its resources to its programs, facilities, and athletes.
3. Donations and Fundraising:
Donor Incentives: Donations made to the team are generally tax-deductible for the donor. This makes it more attractive for individuals and businesses to contribute to the organization.
Grant Eligibility: The team may qualify for various grants and funding opportunities that are only available to non-profit organizations.
4. Regulations and Compliance:
Public Benefit: The team must operate in a way that benefits the public, such as offering programs to help underprivileged kids or promoting community wellness.
Restrictions on Profit Distribution: Any profits made cannot be distributed to owners, directors, or members. Instead, they must be reinvested back into the team’s mission, such as purchasing equipment, funding scholarships, or expanding programs.
Transparency: 501(c)(3) organizations are required to maintain a certain level of transparency, including annual reporting to the IRS (Form 990) and ensuring funds are used in accordance with their stated mission.
5. Mission-Driven:
The primary purpose of the team must align with charitable, educational, or other exempt purposes recognized by the IRS, like fostering amateur sports competition or promoting physical health.
In summary, operating as a 501(c)(3) allows a sports team to focus on community-oriented goals, fundraise effectively through tax-deductible donations, and benefit from tax exemptions, while maintaining compliance with non-profit regulations.
